TikTok Shop can be a useful sales channel for supplement brands, but it is not an open marketplace. In the United States, dietary supplements are an invite-only category. Sellers also need to meet the category requirements before listing. The rules cover product pages, videos, and LIVE streams. A brand that starts without understanding them risks removed listings, account-health penalties, or losing access to the category.
TikTok Shop updates its policies, so check its current Dietary Supplements Requirements before you prepare a launch.
What is allowed
TikTok Shop permits selected sellers to offer beauty supplements, fitness supplements, vitamin, mineral and wellness supplements, herbal supplements, and certain sexual-wellness supplements. That does not make every product in those broad categories eligible. Products can still be prohibited because of their ingredients, intended use, claims, or product type.
For example, TikTok Shop prohibits weight-management supplements, including appetite suppressants, diet shakes, fat burners, meal-replacement products, and weight-loss bars. Mental-wellness supplements are also prohibited. Before committing to a launch, confirm that the product fits TikTok Shop’s current rules and that your business has been invited to sell in the category.
The claims line matters even more on TikTok Shop
For non-OTC products, TikTok Shop prohibits claims that a product can diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate, or prevent a disease or medical condition. Medical claims are allowed only for OTC drugs when they match the Drug Facts label’s “Uses” section. The platform also restricts weight-management claims, including claims about weight loss, weight gain, muscle gain, fat burning, or body transformation.
Those restrictions apply to more than the product page. A disease claim made by a host during a LIVE selling session can also violate policy. Brands that use live commerce should give hosts clear, compliant talking points before they go live. “Be careful what you say” is not enough.

What the qualification process involves
Eligibility is limited to sellers invited into the dietary-supplement category by a TikTok Shop Account Manager. Invited sellers must submit documents showing that they are qualified to sell the products. The exact requirements differ for manufacturers, importers, repackers, and resellers.
For manufacturers, importers, and repackers, TikTok Shop may require proof of valid FDA food-facility registration, a valid cGMP certificate, a product lab test report, and clear images of the product labels. Test reports must meet the platform’s current requirements. Resellers may need a qualifying purchase invoice as well as a report from an approved laboratory. Build time for this work into the launch plan. Do not wait until the inventory is ready to ask whether the account is eligible.
Common mistakes brands make
Treating category access as automatic
Dietary supplements are an invite-only category in the United States. Trying to list before the seller is approved can lead to rejection or enforcement action.
Assuming website copy automatically works on TikTok Shop
Marketing language that has passed a legal review for a company website may still conflict with TikTok Shop’s own product and content policies. Review listing copy, video scripts, captions, and affiliate materials against the platform’s current rules.
Under-preparing LIVE hosts
A product page can be reviewed line by line. A host speaking live may improvise. Give every host boundaries, approved product descriptions, and examples of claims they must avoid before the session begins.
Misreading TikTok Shop’s contribution to demand
TikTok Shop can affect demand on a brand’s website or Amazon even when direct TikTok Shop orders look modest. Track branded search and referral traffic alongside completed orders. Without that context, a brand can either miss the channel’s contribution or give it credit for unrelated growth.
What this means for production planning
The platform’s requirements belong in the launch plan alongside production. Keep the formulation, product labels, testing records, and compliance documents organized early. That gives the brand a better chance of moving once it receives category access and its materials are ready for review.
Frequently asked questions
Can any dietary supplement be sold on TikTok Shop?
No. TikTok Shop limits the category to invited sellers and prohibits some supplement types, including weight-management and mental-wellness supplements. The prohibited list is not exhaustive, so check the current policy before listing.
How long does TikTok Shop’s qualification process take?
TikTok Shop’s dietary-supplement policy does not promise a standard review period. Sellers need an invitation and then must provide the required documentation. Contact your Account Manager and begin preparing documents well before the planned launch.
Do LIVE hosts need special training?
Yes. The health-related content rules apply to LIVE streams as well as listings. Hosts should understand the approved product language and know that disease, weight-management, and other restricted claims can create a policy violation.
Does compliant website marketing copy automatically work on TikTok Shop?
No. TikTok Shop applies its own product and content policies in addition to applicable FTC and FDA requirements. Review existing marketing language against TikTok Shop’s current rules instead of assuming it will transfer.
Should we start the TikTok Shop process before the product is fully ready?
Yes. Ask about category eligibility and prepare the required materials while production is underway. Waiting until a finished product is ready to ship can create a delay before it can be listed.
